Our Latino Footprints have traveled with each of us who left home, carrying the heart and soul of our roots and enduring among other cultures. Today, as our community faces significant challenges, these footprints remind us of the resilience and strength of all Latinos around the world and the importance of continuing to leave our mark. Our event “Latino Footprints,” organized entirely by our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) members, was a heartfelt celebration of that spirit. With 25 adults and 22 children participating, we honored the richness and pride of our Hispanic heritage during Hispanic Heritage Month. PAC members demonstrated exceptional parent leadership, taking full ownership of the event from start to finish—planning activities, preparing traditional dishes and desserts, and coordinating vibrant performances by both parents and children. Their teamwork built strong social bonds among families and encouraged everyone to share their culture and talents. Furthermore, the Parent Advisory Committee selected a local Latino Business Owner, Ms. Griselda, to be recognized for her contributions to the Paterson Community and the Family Success Center. Our Executive Director, Carolyn McCombs, presented her daughter with a certificate of appreciation for her mother’s work, support, and dedication to the community of Paterson and the Latino community.
The event also increased awareness of parenting and child development, as parents modeled pride in their heritage and cultural identity for their children. We partnered with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, which provided an informational table and shared valuable health and wellness resources with families. Additionally, the event featured educational posters highlighting the cultural contributions of renowned Hispanic figures and providing information about Hispanic food, music, art, and architecture. “Latino Footprints” was more than a celebration; it was a living example of how culture, leadership, and community come together to strengthen families and promote well-being for all.
