Asus is one of the most renowned brands in gaming laptops, right there with Alienware and other major players in the industry. Taiwanese manufacturer Asus has a variety of products to suit all budgets, from basic models as well as powerful ones that feature the most recent GPU and processor technology.
Despite its premium specs, the ROG Strix Scar 16 is a portable machine. The 17-inch screen has 244Hz – 144Hz and has the resolution of 1080p. This is high enough to provide an immersive experience. The battery lasts 6-8 hours with mixed use and the fans are quiet even when the device is in use.
The Scar 16 has a design that’s a little gamer-like but not overly flashy. Its most distinctive characteristic is its prismatic lid which captures light and shines it through 8,279 tiny holes for a rainbow-like appearance. The laptop’s display pivot also lifts the chassis back, which improves airflow. It also tilts the keyboard towards you. Asus calls it its ErgoLift hinge.
This laptop is great for gaming, but it also has the ability to handle other processing-intensive tasks, such as video editing or image manipulation. It’s got plenty of ports – USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 2.0b, 3.5mm combo jack and Gigabit Ethernet — plus a dedicated SD card slot. The speakers are incredibly powerful but they can be dispersed and shrill when you play them at a high volume and you’ll likely need to pair it with headphones. The only drawback is minor unwanted programs that you’ll need to get rid of including McAfee Personal Security and the Dolby App.
